In April 2024, the The Wilson Center published a paper, titled "Climate Priorities in the Middle East and North Africa", that studies the different contributions that MENA states can give to contrast the #climatecrisis. This Occasional Paper examines climate strategies and actions by evaluating gaps and challenges and provides recommendations for policymakers and the international community to bolster #adaptation, #mitigation, and #resilience efforts in a fragile region. The analysis explores the policies adopted both by Gulf Cooperation Council states and by comparably resource-poor lower-middle income states in the Levant and North Africa. What are some of the unique pressures faced by women mediators and peacebuilders, what are the ways in which they cope with them, and how do we better address these pressures? A new report from Women Mediators across the Commonwealth examines the psychosocial implications of peacebuilding for women mediators. Addressing risks, threats, and other types of detrimental impact provides an opportunity to meaningfully reduce some of the barriers to women’s participation in high-level mediation processes. The research report includes practical recommendations related to psychosocial support mechanisms that can be provided to women mediators and peacebuilders by governments, women mediator networks and other key actors within the WPS agenda. I am pleased to share my latest publication: "A Global South Perspective on Explainable AI" published by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace In this article, I posit that a context-driven approach is necessary to translate principles like explainability into practice globally. These vignettes illustrate how AI can be made more trustworthy for users in the Global South through more creative, context-rooted approaches to legibility. Thanks to Aubra Anthony, George Perkovich, Matt O'Shaughnessy and Lakshmee Vinayak Sharma for their input and reviews of the drafts leading to this publication.
