“It is about patients, but the dollars follow the patients,” #OHSU struggles with a 47% drop in transfers from other #hospitals which are typically #patients seeking more lucrative specialized #procedures. #Hospital beds are really precious in Oregon (49th in the country per capita supply). #ED clogged with non-urgent non-lucrative cases. Better access to #UrgentCare & #CaseManagement might help. It’s a community-wide issue bigger than OHSU alone. What happened to that cadre of patients who were not transferred to OHSU over the last 5 years? Got acceptable care elsewhere? Waited longer in the OHSU specialty inpatient queue? Suffered more from shunted or delayed access? Does anyone know?
