Wout Weghorst has left Burnley to join Bundesliga side Hoffenheim on loan having spent the second half of last season at Manchester United.

The striker returned to Turf Moor this summer after spending last season with Besiktas and United. Weghorst only scored twice in a United shirt and failed to find the net in the Premier League.

As a result, United decided not to pursue a permanent move and Weghorst hasn't been included in Vincent Kompany's plans either. Instead, he's returned to the Bundesliga, joining Hoffenheim on loan.

“I had a few opportunities and have given a lot of thought to my future over the past few weeks," Weghorst said. "Those responsible at TSG made an enormous effort for me and showed me a lot of appreciation.

"That really impressed me and it just feels right to be here now. So it's all the better that all talks have now ended positively and that the transfer to TSG has taken place.

"I would now like to return the trust that was placed in me on the pitch and do my part to make the season as successful as possible."

Hoffenheim managing director Alexander Rosen has described the deal as 'remarkable'. He thanked the club for allowing Hoffenheim to bring Weghorst back to the Bundesliga.

"I don't think I'm exaggerating when I call this transfer remarkable and exceptional. In any case, that's what he is for us," he said. "The fact that a striker with this CV and these options has decided to join TSG Hoffenheim shows that this club also attracts well-known players.

“We decided on a special profile when looking for a striker and have been working calmly, meticulously and with the necessary emphasis at various levels for a few weeks, not on the fastest but on the best possible solution. We believe we have found this in Wout and expect his mentality, experience and marksmanship to give the entire team a boost."
