He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. in June of 1995. 

Throughout his career, Sergeant Major Mota has been assigned numerous duties to include: Machine Gunner, Machine Gun Squad and Section Leader; Combat Instructor; Riffle Platoon Sergeant; Scout Sniper Platoon Sergeant; Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor; Academic Instructor; Assistant Marine Officer Instructor; Sergeant Instructor at Officer Candidate School; First Sergeant, India and Weapons Companies 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines; First Sergeant, Bravo Company Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry East; Sergeant Major, 2nd Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command; Sergeant Major, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 12, I Marine Aircraft Wing, Sergeant Major, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan, Sergeant Major, Marine Corps Forces, South as part of United States Southern Command and Sergeant Major, MCRD / ERR PISC.  

He deployed aboard the USS Nassau in 1996 as part of the 26th MEU (Special Operations Capable) with 1st Bn, 8th Marines and supported operations in the Adriatic Sea to include participating in operations DECISIVE ENDEAVOR, SILVER WAKE, and GUARDIAN RETRIEVAL. In 2004, he deployed aboard the USS Shreveport as part of the 22nd MEU with 1st Bn, 6th Marines and subsequently conducted combat operations in Afghanistan during Operation MOUNTAIN STORM. In 2005, he deployed again with 1st Bn, 6th Marines and participated in combat operations in Iraq as part of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 4-6. In 2010 and again in 2011, he deployed to Afghanistan and participated in combat operations as part of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM with 3d Bn, 6th Marines. From 2018 to 2020, as the 31st MEU SgtMaj, he deployed and participated in several Theater Security Cooperation exercises throughout the Indo-Pacific Command Area of Responsibility.  In April of 2020, SgtMaj Mota assumed the responsibility as Sergeant Major for Marine Corps Forces, South where he was instrumental in the advisement, employment, and support of Marine Corps forces assigned in pursuit of the Commander, U.S. Southern Command’s theater objectives that span across the full spectrum of military operations.  From August 2021 until June 2023, He served as Sergeant Major for Marine Corps Recruit Depot and Eastern Recruiting Region, Parris Island, South Carolina. 

SgtMaj Mota holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a focus in Human Resource Management and is a graduate of the Key Stone Course for Senior Enlisted Leaders held at the National Defense University.
