Da die Strecke zwischen Coburg und Lichtenfels gesperrt war wurde während der Bauarbeiten ein Inselverkehr zwischen Coburg und Sonneberg eingerichtet. Zu dieser Zeit fuhren „Desiro“ Triebzüge der BR 642 die Destination. Auf den Bild ist der Desiro 642 620-9 zu sehen wie er den Coburger Bahnhof in Richtung Sonneberg, über Rödental und Neustadt, verlässt.
