Beth Ditto’s punk indie band Gossip has announced their long-awaited reunion and brand new music, more than 20 years after releasing their debut single.

Frontwoman Beth, guitarist Nathan ‘Brace Paine’ Howdeshell and drummer Hannah Blilie are back together once again, and have delighted their loyal fans by giving them their first new music in more than a decade.

The trio’s new 11-track album, Real Power, will be released on 22 March next year, and it follows the launch of their single Crazy Again, which Beth said was about “being in love and feeling so safe”.

“When we began, so much about Gossip was about running away - that was always in the music. We survived. We came from nothing, and we got the f**k out of there. And to be here 20 years later and still making music together is just incredible,” the 42-year-old explained.

Gossip have worked with Grammy-winning producer Rick Rubin, who worked with the rockers on their 2009 album Music For Men. Their new album was recorded at his home studio in Kauai, Hawaii, but was disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the group were only allowed to resume recording when restrictions were lifted.

The band split in 2016

The band shot to superstardom in 2006 with the release of Standing in the Way of Control, which was written in response to then-US President George Bush’s the Federal Marriage Amendment, which prevented states from recognising same sex marriages.

They split in 2016, and Beth, real name Mary Beth Patterson, said she wanted to pursue her career in fashion and acting. She’s released a collection with high street store Evans, walked the catwalk for Jean Paul Gaultier at Paris Fashion Week, collaborated with MAC Cosmetics, and released her memoir, Coal to Diamonds.

She made her movie debut in director Gus Van Sant's flick Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot, and appeared alongside Kirsten Dunst in the critically-acclaimed series On Becoming a God in Central Florida. She recently portrayed country singer Gigi Roman on the drama series Monarch with Susan Sarandon and Anna Friel.

The music video for Crazy Again will be released on Friday, and saw the group reunite with director and audio-visual artist Ssion, who directed their 2010 Men In Love music video.

The group released their last album A Joyful Noise in 2012, and in 2019, reunited for the 10-year anniversary of their fourth studio album Music for Men.
