A multimillion-dollar tax dispute involving an Upper Peninsula mine dragged on for seven years, leaving rural communities straining to fund public services.

But a tentative $29 million agreement reached last month between Marquette County, three local communities and the steel giant Cleveland Cliffs could settle the issue.
