One of SA’s favourite rock-pop bands is ramping up the holiday vibe by giving fans a taste of their brand-new track, I’ve Been A Good Boy, Santa.

And according to lead singer Kahn Morbee, the first two verses of the song are inspired by his own children.

“I’ve got three boys and I keep reminding them that Santa only gives gifts to good children and they need to be kind and happy. I tell them to share which coincides with the lyric, ‘I even let my brothers play with all my toys’.

“The third verse is a reflection on a tumultuous 2020 and its Covid curveball – ‘It’s been a bad year, Santa’.”

The song – along with their second single, Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) – features on the band’s brand-new album, Strike the Harp, which follows their previous album, 2018’s China.

Guitarist Paul Hodgson says they wanted to do an album that featured original songs as well as some classic Christmas covers.

“Our first choices were the obvious ones, like The First Noel and Joy to the World and Santa Claus is Coming to Town, but we didn’t really feel inspired and saw there were already dozens of versions of these songs.

“So we searched some more, finding the songs that weren’t quite as well-known or traditional. Eventually we found [some] by varied artists [such] as Stevie Wonder, Laurika Rauch and Joni Mitchell, and spent some time putting our own vibe to these songs. We also tried to inject a sense of optimism and hope into the album and artwork to counter the tough year 2020 has been.”
