ERBRECHT-HALL
Bonita Louise Erbrecht-Hall, age 84, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at the Arbors at Westbrook Terrace in Jefferson City, Mo.
She was born on December 28, 1938, in Doe Run, Mo., the daughter of Leeman and Oneida (Bosswell) Gruner.
She was married to Ronald Wayne Erbrecht and, together, they welcomed their daughter, Tara, with abundant love. Ronald preceded her in passing in 1984. She later married Albert Louis Hall who also preceded her in death in 2012.
Bonita graduated from Doe Run High School and continued her education at Southwest Baptist Junior College in Bolivar, Mo. She accepted a position with the Missouri Baptist Convention in Jefferson City and began her professional career. During her time there, a friend connected her to an Army man named Ronald and they courted via pen pal while he was away. When Ronald returned to civilian life, he and Bonita got married and spent several years in Missouri. He was later offered a career opportunity in Memphis and they relocated to Tennessee and eventually back to Missouri.
Bonita possessed an innate nurturing quality. Establishing an in-home day care in Memphis, she warmly embraced the children under her care, considering them part of her family. Bonita’s residence was a home away from home for many children over the years and she enjoyed every minute of rocking, consoling, teaching, and loving all her day care kids. She later enjoyed soaking up some baby snuggles in the church nursery where she spent countless hours caring for the little ones. Bonita dedicated many years to working as a secretary for Memorial Baptist Church where she was also a member for over 30 years. Bonita put her social butterfly spirit to work as a greeter for Walmart. She was a valued team member at all three locations in Jefferson City over a span of 25 years and gained a high level of recognition around town.
Bonita loved to travel, and she enjoyed many trips with her husband exploring various destinations across the Unites States. She also held cherished memories of trips taken with her daughter and grandsons to various destination across Missouri, Wisconsin and even to the Mall of America. The most recent adventure was journeying to Branson with her daughter and one of her grandsons. She was a woman of strong faith and valued the relationships she cultivated in her Sunday School class, “The Golden Circle”. She also adored being a part of the church choir. Bonita was as sweet as they come, though it’s hard to say if this was due to her loving and selfless heart or her affinity for sugary treats.
Bonita was a supportive and attentive mother and a proud and doting grandmother. Her grandsons adored her and lovingly named her “Grambo” a clever combination of Grandma Bonita. Grambo’s house was always full of welcoming love and a refrigerator packed with soda and each grandchild’s favorite candy bars. Bonita’s memory will be one of humble actions and selfless love.
Bonita was cherished by the staff at The Arbors, and she loved each of them very much. The family expresses deep appreciation for the excellent care Bonita received by them.
Survivors include: her daughter, Tara Snellen (Jason) of Jefferson City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Blake Snellen of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jake Snellen (Katlyn) and their furchild, Hela of St. Louis, Mo., and Brock Snellen of Jefferson City, Mo.; sister-in-law, Alice Gruner; one niece; two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; and one brother, Bob Gruner.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Freeman Mortuary.
A celebration of Bonita’s life will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Lyle Witcher officiating. Private graveside services and interment will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
