Port Authority police cruiser involved in crash in Jersey City

pa-mva-1.jpgThe intersection at Pavonia and Baldwin avenues are closed as police investigate an accident between a Port Authority police cruiser and another car.

A Port Authority police cruiser was involved in a two-car accident at the intersection of Baldwin and Pavonia avenues in Jersey City this morning.

The front bumper of the police cruiser was nearly ripped completely off the car in the crash, which occurred at 10:30 a.m.. The other vehicle in the accident, a small 4-door Saturn, suffered damage to the driver's side doors.

A Port Authority police spokesman said the police officer and the driver of the other vehicle were brought to the Jersey City Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.

The spokesman, Al Della Fave, said that based on initial reports, the driver of the Saturn went through a red light at the intersection and hit the police cruiser.
