Voltar

Chinese trumpetfish

Biology

This trumpet fish species is easily recognized by its elongated body and tubular snout. It has a series of short dorsal spines and exhibits quite a varied colouration, between brown, green and yellow. It is a solitary and stealthy fish that moves slowly in its habitat: shallow waters of coral and rocky reefs.

Conservation

This species has a wide range area, much of it in protected areas. As it inhabits coral and rocky reefs, it is subject to habitat loss. However, this is a fish with a great capability for adaptation which uses other habitats besides reefs, and so this species is not considered threatened.

Curiosities

As it is a poor swimmer, this trumpet fish is dependent on behavioural strategies to survive. When being hunted, it hides behind bigger fish and it can even quickly change colours in order to camouflage itself in the surrounding environment.
