Biography: Gerard Butler is a Scottish actor who gained worldwide recognition for his portrayal of King Leonidas in 300 (2006) and roles in The Phantom of the Opera (2004) and the How to Train Your Dragon series (2010–2019).

After studying law at the University of Glasgow and a troubled period post his father's death, Butler pursued acting in London. His first professional role was in Steven Berkoff's production of Coriolanus.

His film debut came with Mrs Brown (1997), and significant early roles included Dracula 2000 (2000) and Attila (2001). The success of 300 gave a significant boost to his career, leading to a mix of genre roles including animated films and action thrillers like the Olympus Has Fallen series.

Aside from entertainment, Butler has encountered serious personal challenges, including a life-threatening surfing incident and overcoming substance use. He is devoted to charity, with active participation in organizations like Mary's Meals, and supports Celtic F.C. His residence in California was affected by the Woolsey Fire in 2018.
