Circumcision surgery consists of the removal of the excess foreskin of the penis, the skin covering the glans penis, in a quick, outpatient procedure (less than 30 minutes in the operating theatre).

This procedure is usually performed for several reasons, the main ones being the following:

• Medical reasons: Patients who have problems retracting the foreskin, both for sexual intercourse and for masturbation or cleaning, when erect or at rest; tension during erection, with the sensation that the frenulum presses on the glans area (sometimes it can even break); problems when urinating and even infections due to difficulty in hygiene. • Religious reasons: Some cultures, such as Jewish or Muslim, have circumcision as part of their creed.
• Aesthetic reasons: In other cases, some patients choose to undergo circumcision for aesthetic reasons because they prefer a penis without a foreskin.
