This procedure is usually performed for several reasons, the main ones being the following:

  • Medical reasons: Patients who have problems retracting the foreskin, both for sexual intercourse and for masturbation or cleaning, when erect or at rest; tension during erection, with the sensation that the frenulum presses on the glans area (sometimes it can even break); problems when urinating and even infections due to difficulty in hygiene. All of this can be solved by circumcision.
  • Religious reasons: Some cultures, such as Jewish or Muslim, have circumcision as part of their creed.
  • Aesthetic reasons: In other cases, some patients choose to undergo circumcision for aesthetic reasons because they prefer a penis without a foreskin.

What is circumcision surgery

Circumcision is a very common procedure and one of the most frequently performed by our urologists, since patients who need it for medical reasons are clear that they want to solve the problem and those seeking an aesthetic change are also very clear about it. In addition, it is understood that there are some benefits to circumcision.

You can read more about this in our article on the benefits of circumcision, phimosis.

Despite all this, the most important thing when it comes to undergoing a phimosis surgery, circumcision, beyond performing the intervention in a controlled and aseptic environment, operating theatre, the most important thing for the surgery to have optimal results is to have an experienced surgeon to carry out the intervention.
