Ann Kramer Clark, 79, of South Bend, Indiana, died peacefully in Hospice care at Memorial Hospital on October 2nd. 2023. She was born in Palo Alto, California, on December 31st, 1943, and grew up in Boulder, Colorado, graduating from Boulder High School in 1961, and from Smith College in 1965. She earned a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin in 1973. She was the only graduating woman in her class. Thereafter, she taught philosophy at Saint Mary’s College in South Bend for 41 years. She devoted much of her waking life teaching young women to think, and trying to get them to think for themselves. Along the way, she received teaching awards, authored papers, and married Charles Kirkpatrick in 1986. Her interests broadened: she was instrumental in building the Women’s Studies Program at Saint Mary’s, and beyond the campus, taught yoga in her later years.
She is survived by her husband, her god-daughter, Antonia Domingo of Pittsburgh, her sister, Sarah Clark of Lakewood, Colorado, her brother, Richard Clark of Littleton, Colorado, and her niece, Katie Clark of Philadelphia.
A memorial gathering will take place on Wednesday, November 1st, at 4pm, at Haggar Hall in the Haggar College Center on the campus of Saint Mary’s College.
