The Russian ekranoplan KM was the biggest aircraft in its time, over 90 meters long. Dubbed the Caspian Sea Monster by foreign intelligence, it suffered an accident in 1980 and was left to sink. Built in 1966, it could travel at 500km/h 14 meters above the sea surface and was capable of carrying twice as much cargo as a plane similar in size.
