Saxifragaceae
Heuchera cylindrica

Roundleaf Alumroot

Tuft with erect stem. Basal leaves broadly oval to round, longer than wide, shallowly lobed, toothed, petiole glandular to hairy or shiny. Flower spike tops 5–35 in. leafless stem. Flowers usually without petals; calyx bell-shaped, pale yellow, green, cream, or pink; stamens not exerted. Grows in rocky slopes, cliffs, at mid to high elevations. Var. alpina has glands on leaves and base of stem. Var. glabella is hairless and glandless. Var. cylindrica, the most common, has hairs and glands on petioles and stem base, large bracts where stem attaches, thick leaves. This is a highly variable species and intermediate forms are common. Heuchera grossulariifolia is similar but with leaves always shorter than wide, shorter flower stem, and white petals on the flowers.
