UberStrike developers planning for tablet release

Cmune, developr of the free-to-play first-person shooter UberStrike, will receive funding through venture capital firm DCM to release the game on iPad and Android tablets, according to a recent press release.

UberStrike launched in 2010. The game currently has more than 10 million registered players and is available through Facebook, the Mac App Store and more. DCM's A-Fund is typically granted to promising companies for advancements such as app development and hardware devices. According to a statement from Cmune co-founder and CEO Ludovic Bodin, mobile advancement is "a huge opportunity" for a breakout hit.

"Our entry on tablets will be a game changer: most shooters there are premium or single-player," Bodin said. "Offering UberStrike for free on both iPad and Android tablets will open up an entirely new and untapped market: the millions of gamers who already have tablets and no good free game to play."

A release date for either platform has not been announced.
