Hey all!

I believe these are orange/green eye Acans. Am I correct? I was told about 3 years ago that it was an orange favia, which I thought was incorrect.

Question: it seems that it is starting to now encrust onto my bare bottom. Any suggestions how to manage this? Or should I let it go and then when fully grown just use a razor blade to get the polyps off and attach them to rubble?

Thanks!

You we’re possibly told incorrectly. It looks like a species of Favites! Each corallite shares a common wall (cerioid). Normally, Favia is differentiated from Favites, usually, in that the individual corallites have their own wall (plocoid).

Thanks all! I am leaning towards acans as well. Any recommendation to handle the encrusting onto the bare bottom? Or is my thought process on that fine?

It will have a skeleton base so fragging is better with a saw unlike breaking pieces off like a montipora. The echinata is an aggressive coral so be mindful of other corals nearby

Gotcha, when I tried to move it, it was sticking to my bare bottom. I’m assuming the skeleton on the new heads is probably still growing. Thanks!

you could also put another rock below it for the acan to grow onto instead of your tank

Thanks everyone! Maybe I should try and find a flat piece of live rock somewhere and place it under. Might be a tough find though
