Dottyback sounds about right. Pseudochromis springeri maybe?

I think I picked up that same wrasse 2 weeks ago. Definitely dives into sand when scared. I also read they form a bubble around themselves under the sand. Dunno but it's sweet. The LFS called it a purple cleaner wrasse. My friend who spotted it thought it was black also.

It's a juvenile Chiseltooth Wrasse - Pseudodax moluccanus

They get rather large, around a foot long. But they are great reef fish otherwise.
