Info

Chaetodon humeralis Günther, 1860

Chaetodon humeralis also known as the Treebanded butterflyfish, East Pacific Butterflyfish or Cortez banded butterflyfish, is an eastern Pacific endemic Species whose range has ben reported as northern Chile to San Diego/California, reaching the Galapagos and Cocos islands. It is easily distinguishable from the other tree chaetodontid species from the eastern Pacific and cannot be confused with any Indo-west Pacific spezies. Found all along the tropical east Pacific coast of Central America up into the Mar de Cortez.

Chaetodon humeralis can feed on polychaetes, coral polyps and algae as the most butterflyfish too.

Butterflyfish are not recommended for reefs as they will pick at or eat a wide variety of corals, fan worms, and other invertebrates. Most Butterflyfish are known to pick at Aiptaisia, a parasitic anemone.
