Info

Terapon theraps is a dark green grunt with an iridescent sheen that becomes silvery white on the belly with four broad dusky to blackish stripes along the side, a large black spot on the dorsal fin, and dark stripes on the tail.
Juvenile fish are brown with darker stripes, regularly spaced white spots along the light areas between the dark stripes, and a striped tail.
They often hide under floating algae and debris, especially Sargassum, and can be seen far offshore.

Adults often reside in brackish water habitats, including mangrove forests.
