Chaetodon multicinctus also known as the Pebbled Butterflyfish, Many- Banded Butterflyfish or also Multi-Banded Butterflyfish is presently only known to be found endemic in the Hawaiiian waters.
The Pebbled Butterflyfish remains fairly small, only reaching an average length of about 10 cm. He has a deep compressed body and is whitish or creamy in color with four to six narrow tan vertical bars and many faint olive spots on both the body and the fins; a gold-brown eye bar on the head and a black and gold bar on the caudal peduncle and further a solid black bar on the caudal fin. The base of the tail also has a reddish/rust colored band.
Chaetodon multicinctus preferentially feeds on coral polyps, but is also known as easily to adapt to other kind of food like dried shrimp or nori and other basic tank foods.
Remarks:
Butterflyfish are not recommended for reefs as they will pick at or eat a wide variety of corals, fan worms, and other invertebrates. Most Butterflyfish are known to pick at Aiptaisia, a parasitic anemone.
