Info

Koehler, 1910

This starfish was posted under "What is it?" for ID, which Siglinde managed with Nardoa frianti.

This starfish occurs singly or in groups on shallow water reefs on sand and rubble at water depths of 0-51 meters.

Nardoa frianti varies in color from site to site.

Starfish have remarkable regenerative powers and are capable of regrowing torn or bitten off arms.

Starfish are carnivorous and will feed on almost any animal including mollusks, worms, detritus and other starfish, even cannibalism between themselves occurs regularly. Some starfish, such as the crown of thorns, can be poisonous.

Symbionts: Thyca nardoafrianti (Habe, 1976) and Zenopontonia soror (Nobili, 1904).
