Where are the differences between these two cranks? I can't see any. Apart from the lettering these are the same, right? I'm aware that there were different chainrings available but what is different on the bodys of these cranks.
To me they look like the same finish, the same weight, the same cranks.
Please enlighten me.

from memory!

XT are machine finished and are of higher grade materials, pantographed logo, possibly 'cold forged' but cant remember and are anodized.

DX are cast, printed logo and have a raw finish

There is quite a difference when you have the two together.

Thanks LGF for the input. Absolutely right.

I just found something in the Shimano tech docs about the finish.

XT: anodized finish
DX: barrel finish

I guess the weight of the bodies isn't really different.

Tech docs state:

XT: 730gr with 26/36/46 rings
DX: 740gr with 28/38/48 rings
