Actor Steve Buscemi is mourning the loss of his wife of more than 30 years, Jo Andres, following her death at the age of 65. Radar Online was the first to report Andres’ tragic passing.
Per TMZ, a moving funeral service was held at the Brooklyn home of Buscemi and Andres. Among the guests were Buscemi’s The Big Lebowski costar John Turturro and The Sopranos’ Aida Turturro, as well as Buscemi’s brother Michael and the couple’s son, Lucian, 29.
Additionally, firefighters from FDNY’s Engine Co. 55 (which Buscemi volunteered with on 9/11) arrived at the home to block off the street so Andres’ wicker casket could be removed from the home.
The company that prepared the home for the funeral reportedly specializes in “natural burials” in which everything is biodegradable, and the final resting place is in a “natural setting.”
Buscemi and Andres, who married in 1987, were last spotted together in July 2018 in New York City, when they attended The Cinema Society screening of Puzzle.
A choreographer and filmmaker, Andres “first became known on the kinetic downtown New York performance scene of the 1980s for her film/dance/light performances, shown at the reigning venues of the era, among them The Performing Garage, La Mama E.T.C., P.S. 122, St. Marks Danspace and the Collective for Living Cinema,” according to her official website.
Andres has also been an artist-in-residence at such prestigious institutions as Yaddo and The Rockefeller Study Center in Bellagio, Italy.

At one point, by Buscemi’s own admission, Andres left him to travel around Europe for a month with an ex-boyfriend. He later confessed that, during that time in his youth, he took to writing love songs about her. He was subsequently quoted by Fabioso, saying, “If she ever leaves me, maybe I’ll start writing songs again. But I’d much rather be happy with her than writing sad songs without her.”
The cause of Andres’ death is currently unknown.
