What educators are saying

Anything that can grade itself is a win for me! I did this in smalll groups to make sure kids didnt rush.
These are perfect! Looking for a way to determine what student's know and these are amazing! Love that there's both fiction and nonfiction assessments!

Description

Do you need a way to digitally pre-assess your students in reading? This resource provides multiple choice, self-grading digital reading pre-assessments to help you get to know your students’ strengths and challenges as readers.

These assessments are DIGITAL only.

Using these digital reading pre-assessments, you will be able to:

  • get an overall reading “grade level” for your students. The results will help you see, overall, how your students are performing in reading. (For example, Are they performing on a third grade level, a second grade level? Are they performing below grade level, above grade level?)
  • see deficits in specific reading skills or genres (fiction, nonfiction, and persuasive)

Note: There are no reading assessments for 5th grade because the purpose is to assess the grade level below to see their readiness for grade level skills. I will consider adding a set for 5th grade at some point, but no guarantees.

About the Digital Reading Pre-Assessments

The digital reading assessments assess:

  • Grade level skills
  • General comprehension
  • Fiction and Nonfiction

These digital reading assessments do not assess fluency or accuracy skills. They only assess comprehension.

The digital reading assessments are Google Forms format and MULTIPLE CHOICE.

These assessments are DIGITAL only.

You can use these with any platform that allows you to post a link to your students. Click here to read more about assigning Google Forms.

They are set up for self-grading and you will be able to download a spreadsheet to analyze the results. Click here to read more about viewing and analyzing results.

What digital reading assessments are included?

There are 11 digital reading pre-assessments included.

•3 assessments to assess 2nd grade reading skills/reading levels (Labeled Set A)

•4 assessments to assess 3rd grade reading skills/reading levels (Labeled Set B)

•4 assessments to assess 4th grade reading skills/reading levels (Labeled Set C)

Note: There are no reading assessments for 5th grade because the purpose is to assess the grade level below to see their readiness for grade level skills. I will consider adding a set for 5th grade at some point, but no guarantees.

The assessments are NOT labeled by grade to allow you to give any grade level to any student.

Each reading assignment includes 8 to 10 questions that target specific reading skills or general comprehension skills. See the preview for a breakdown for each assessment.

The assessments are written to assess the target reading skills for that grade level. An alignment of skills is provided to help you analyze the results of the data.

These assessments are DIGITAL only.

After Giving the Digital Reading Pre-Assessments

Once you've given the tests, there are some next steps that you can take using the data that you have from these pre-assessments.

  • use the overall data of how your students perform to guide your whole group instruction and pacing
  • use the data to form flexible groups for small group instruction
  • use the data from specific skill questions to guide the relevant grade level instruction
