It wouldn’t be 2023 if I didn’t share the news of yet another celebrity breakup. The couple unfortunately severing ties this time? Lupita Nyong’o and ex Selema Masekala.
The news was shared in an Instagram post on Thursday where the Black Panther star revealed she was in “a season of heartbreak” and the dissolution of her relationship with Masekala was spawned by “deception.” Acknowledging the fact that her announcement comes amid more important worldwide issues, she shared that her intention in sharing this part of her story was to help encourage others who may be dealing with a similar situation “face their pain, so we don’t spread it.”
“There are much more important things going on in the world right now, and my thoughts are with those who are deeply suffering. At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust,” she began. I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception. I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, ‘Whatever, my life is better this way.’”
She continued:
But I am reminded that the magnitude of the pain I am feeling is equal to the measure of my capacity for love. And so, I am choosing to face the pain, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass. The promise, they say, is that a tender heart is what gives birth to fearlessness. I hope it’s true…

In another potentially hopeful twist, the Oscar-winning actress’ post comes days after she was recently spotted alongside Dawson’s Creek fave Joshua Jackson at a Janelle Monae concert.
While seeing two celebs at an event together wouldn’t normally be cause for speculation, the reason why this has folks interested is because earlier this month, Jackson and his wife Jodie Turner-Smith announced their divorce after four years of marriage.
Now that Nyong’o and Jackson are both single, could we be looking at Hollywood’s next “It Couple?” Only time will tell.
