‘Speedos are 100x more offensive’: Following France’s burkini ban, scores of people are calling on men to ditch their skimpy swimwear
Twitter users have been inspired by the controversial ruling to highlight a more offensive issue plaguing beaches the world over
FRANCE'S attempt to ban the burkini has sparked huge debate all over the world.
But some Twitter users have been inspired by the controversial ruling to highlight a more offensive issue plaguing beaches the world over - men wearing minuscule Speedos.
Amusing tweets have taken the opportunity to compare the burkini - a modest swimwear option - and the unsightly Speedo, with some users branding the tiny swimshorts '100 times more offensive', and mocking the idea that the burkini is the more problematic item of the two.
Twitter user @Cliffordshalo wrote: "If France are banning Burkini's then they really should ban speedo's too because they are 100x more offensive to everyone having to view it [sic.]"
And Samuel King added: "So in light of the burkini ban. Can we also ban fat Middle Aged white men wearing speedo's? It's only fair."

Joshua Schaefer even went so far as to suggest that France made a mistake in banning the burkini - as they were actually supposed to ban Speedos all along.
Meanwhile, tweeter @WholeLottaJulie took a more serious approach to commenting on the affair, writing: "Fat man in speedo = moral. Woman not exposing her skin = immoral?
"French law = ridiculous & cruel. #BurkiniBan [sic.]"
However, unfortunately for these protesters, a law actually exists in France which forbids men from wearing baggier swimming trunks or shorts - as Speedos are seen as more a more hygienic option when swimming in public swimming pools.
So, for now at least, it seems unlikely that their call to ban middle aged men in Speedos will be put into practice any time soon.
