Rosy Barb (Puntius conchonius)

Rosy Barb Tropical Fish Learn all about the Rosy Barb's feeding habits and food types, its behaviour, its origins, its natural habitats, is it male or female, breeding advice and information, suitable tank mates, its sizing and growth range, minimum tank size, water PH and more. Use our fish community creator tool to plan your tank set up and ensure that the Rosy Barb is the right fish for your aquarium.

The Rosy Barb is one of the hardiest barbs available and well suited to the aquarium environment. Its adaptability can be seen in its wild distribution, which includes many areas outside of its native habitat. In the aquarium it is a peaceful, lively and active fish with few demands. Ideally the aquarium should have open swimming spaces and hiding spots amongst vegetation. The Rosy Barb prefers cooler water than some tropical fish and can be kept in unheated aquaria, possibly as an alternative to the goldfish, which despite common belief is not at all suited to aquariums. Keep these fish in groups with other active fish and avoid mixing with timid species who may find the Rosy Barb a little too active.
