Sydney has a brand spanking new stadium, and boy is she spectacular.
Replacing the old Sydney Football Stadium in Moore Park, Allianz Stadium opened to the public in August 2022, positioning itself as one of the country’s premier sporting, entertainment and music venues.
Situated next door to the Sydney Cricket Ground, the 42,500-seat stadium features a 360-degree open concourse, a roof that keeps the sound inside and (crucially) the rain away, as well as steep seating to provide prime views of the field no matter where you are (yes, even the nosebleed section).
Time Out visited the new stadium on two occasions: the first to watch the Wallabies get flogged by South Africa, and the second, to see Bruno Mars take to the stage – hips and all. On both occasions the surround sound was excellent, loud and clear, creating an immersive experience that saw us cheering our lungs out for team green and gold.

Top Merivale venues are serving their offerings – think Totti’s Pasta Bar, Bert’s Bistro, Ms.G’s, Queen Chow, El Loco, Vinnie’s Pizza and Jimmy’s Falafel. Have you ever wanted to knock back six oysters and a Negroni before you watch a game? Well, now you can. How about Sichuan-spiked chewy noodles with an ice-cold beer before a concert? You can get that, too. Rest assured, there are still hot chippies, hot dogs and classic pies. To drink, there is a good range of craft drops on tap, as well as crowd-pleasing wine lists, cocktails, and more.
More than 50,000 people attended the brand-new Allianz Stadium for the very first time on Sunday August 28, 2022, with a free community day and night. From soccer to rugby league, rugby union and baseball, as well as significant cultural events and international artists, Sydney’s new world-class Allianz Stadium will be the place to see it all.
