Distichopora sp. (yellow variety)

Although not present in the southern portion of Kwajalein Atoll, the bright yellow Distichopora starts showing up about 25km north of Kwajalein along the west reef and becomes more common farther north. Along some seaward and lagoon pinnacle reefs, paticularly those near atoll passes and subject to tidal currents. this yellow variety is abundant at depths of about 3 to 20m or so.

Although they may be crowded together, colonies tend to be much smaller than those of the red variety from Namu Atoll.

Mixed in with some pink Stylaster.

The one below resembles the orange variety we saw at Enewetak Atoll.

In a few colonies, the yellow, purple and brown varieties seem to start blending together.
