Liev Schreiber says he will never be cool to his kids, 'it's impossible'

He may be in movies, but to his kids he's not very cool.

I don't know what's NOT COOL about "Ray Donovan's" Liev Schreiber. That's just the way my tastes run.

But even celebrities appear beset with eye-rolling tweens. Because no matter what this MOVIE STAR does – and you got to love the man for actually trying – his teens remain unimpressed, he said Wednesday on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

"You’re never cool to your own kids. I don’t know anybody who is cool to their own kids," he said of sons Sasha, 11 and Kai, 10, who he had with ex-girlfriend Naomi Watts.

Schreiber, 51, knocked back tequila shots with DeGeneres and said he made an effort to win over his sons' admiration. Four years ago, he told his agents that he wanted to do animated movies for his kids.

And he did.

He made "Isle of Dogs," the premiere of which his sons attended. Most recently, he was in the "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," which just won the Golden Globe Award for best animated feature film. Still, his kids were ho-hum about his efforts to be a dope dad.

"...I got some really good animated movies. And my kids, their reaction to them is, 'Yeah, but you’re just a voice.' And I’m like, 'Yeah, but I’m one of the main characters!’ And they’re like, 'Yeah, but you’re the bad guy.' I've accepted the fact it's impossible."

Dad, get out of the photo

DeGeneres pressed on, asking if they thought his appearance on "Saturday Night Live" was cool.

"Yeah, they got to meet Lil Wayne," he replied.

When she flashed behind him the photo of his son Sasha backstage with SNL's musical guest Lil Wayne, Schreiber said his son once again proved he's not lit enough to share space with the cool people.

"I was actually in that picture," he said, "And my son asked me to get out of it!"

Schreiber said he's scared of the teen years

"I don't want teenagers. I have very attractive children," he teased. "I'm sure I could find someone who would want them around 13."

DeGeneres initially expressed an interest in taking his children because "that's the age they can do chores."

But after listening to Schreiber she joked, "Yeah, I don’t want them now. They sound very difficult."
