Bee Gees – High Civilization

49,99

It took me a couple of listens to get into this album. At first, I really didn’t care for it. When I finally ‘got it, this harder-edged direction the Bee Gees took on High Civilization, I was truly astonished and elated to have finally gotten this album. It seems these guys have so many ways of creating and mastering a song that there is, in a way, no preparation for what you might find on their next album.

Sure, there are some very sweet pop-sounding tunes on here, like Happy Ever After and Secret Love and they are marvelous songs in vintage Bee Gees style. It’s the rest of the album, the driving beat and incredible melodies and nuances that have me thanking the heavens that I found this album, so many years after it was recorded. I think the Bee Gees were/are musical geniuses, and their talent comes through in a whole new way with High Civilization. I don’t find myself skipping any of the songs on this album, but some of them I play over and over, and I keep hearing new details in them. Their music is so complex, their production is masterful. I love Ghost Train, the title track, Party With No Name, Human Sacrifice, Evolution, and really all of this album. And to think I almost didn’t get it because I didn’t think I’d like it (thanks in part to some mediocre reviews here), and to think that I didn’t care for it at first so could have just put it on a shelf. This is an incredible album!
