New York Fashion Week wouldn’t be New York Fashion Week without at least one Studio 54 reference, and at the Michael Kors show yesterday, Blake Lively went full disco in a ’70s-inspired gold jumpsuit. This might have been a Monday morning show, but Lively’s look had a real Saturday night energy.

Michael Kors staged his spring 2024 show in a Brooklyn park overlooked by the Williamsburg Bridge, with the likes of Olivia Wilde, Rita Ora and Vanessa Hudgens all in attendance. Lively wore a skin-tight jumpsuit from the brand’s fall 2023 collection, which was made from jersey stitched with micro golden sequins and pooled into rippling bell-bottom flares. It could have been plucked straight from Jerry Hall’s personal party archive. “There’s a breezy effortlessness to the glamour Michael serves season after season,” Lively told Vogue of the show. “That’s who Michael is. Which is why we all love him so much, on the runway and off.”

Kors’s moodboard for that collection was filled with ’70s muses including Cher, Tina Turner and Jane Fonda. “We hear the word ‘influencer’ today, and of course, it means one thing in today’s world. But I was really thinking about the things that influenced me when I was coming of age in the ’70s: the women who influenced me,” he said last season.

It looked as though Lively’s glam team was also inspired by the ’70s, as she had her hair in bouncy curls, bronzed eyes and wore oversized gold hoop earrings. There is also something rather Serena van der Woodsen about this disco-ready look—her character in Gossip Girl wore gold for almost all of her biggest scenes (even her wedding dress had a metallic bustier).

Lively, as usual, styled the New York Fashion Week look herself. “Every person ‘styles’ themselves in real life, I just do it on the red carpet also,” Lively said. “It’s a natural extension to me. I love design of all forms, so I would be sad to miss the opportunity to collaborate with all the incredible artists, fashion houses, ateliers and craftsman that I’ve been incredibly fortunate to get to create with over the years.”
