Biography

Joseph's father was Tobie Alleine of Devizes. Tobie married Elizabeth daughter of Edward Northie on October 11th, 1590.[1]

The exact birthdate of Joseph is not known, but he was baptized April 8th 1634. He was the fourth child in his family.[2]

His older brother Edward died in 1645, when he was only 27. It was this that inspired Joseph to become a clergyman.[3] He met his wife Theodosia at the rectory in August of 1654. They married October 4th, 1655. He spent the first two years of his married life living with his dear widowed friend George Newton, as he was too impoverished from his generosity to support a home for himself.

"Joseph Alleine was the devoted pastor of Taunton. A non-conformist (that is one who rejected the practices of England's state church) he was driven from his pulpit when a restrictive law was enacted. Because he refused to be muzzled, traveling about preaching, he was thrown into prison. When released, he resumed preaching and went back to prison in 1655. Finally he died, worn out, at the young age of 34. Friends buried him in Taunton.

Not one-sided, he was a loving husband to Theodosia Alleine, and a scientific thinker who associated with the founders of the Royal Society. He preached, prayed, wrote and pleaded with his contemporaries to follow Christ. His most famous work, "An Alarm to the Unconverted", also known as "The Sure Guide to Heaven", is still in print.

While in prison, Alleine penned a number of letters, exhorting his followers to a deeper walk with Christ."

Though Isabella is said to be the daughter of Joseph I've found no primary source documents for this, and she doesn't seem to be mentioned in earlier works about his life.

married his cousin Theo her father and uncle were both Presbyterian ministers- [4]

I, Jodi Rae (Trogstad) Brennan, a descendent of this preacher, feel the power of this process of order of the teachings. I am haunted by the abuse I had received and the continue to receive through today's technology which has caused me to be blasphemous. I have been "put through" person's minds where they sit and place pressure and can cause such distress causing me to swear and be depleted in body and soul. I have discussed this at great length with law enforcement. It is a practice John Menard's and others specifically put to me for public humiliation and defamation of character and it does effect all who are of this family. A public statement to Governor Scott Walker has been submitted 2018.
