UPDATE:
The LaSalle County Coroner's Office has identified the deceased diver who was working at Exelon's LaSalle Generating Station near Marseilles.
Coroner William Wujek says 37 year-old Brett Roberts of Mokena is the deceased.
Our sister station WCSJ reported on Wednesday that a maintenance diver, now identified as Roberts, died during work at Exelon’s on Tuesday.
According to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, communication with Roberts was lost for 20 minutes and he was removed from the water but was unresponsive.
At 4:01 p.m. the La Salle County Station operating Department was informed by emergency personnel that Roberts had died.
Exelon released a statement about the incident.
“Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of the contract diver who passed away on Nov. 12 while working on a project at LaSalle County Generating Station. We continue to work with the diver’s employer and local authorities to help investigate this incident.”
The coroner's office says the incident is under further investigation by their office as well as OSHA and the NRC.
