About this movie

Korea's first disaster movie has arrived, with special effects by acclaimed Hollywood CGI specialists Polygon, the team behind the Star Wars prequels, The Day After Tomorrow and The Perfect Storm. During the busy summer months, the beach resort of Haeundae is packed with up to a million tourists. On one such day, a marine geologist detects some seismic activity which he believes will bring a massive tidal wave to the shores of Korea. Although his fears are officially denied by the Disaster Prevention Agency, he races to the city convinced that it is about to be hit by a mega-tsunami. Soon his worst fears become a reality as the city is thrown into a storm of death and destruction. One of the most expensive and highest-grossing productions in Korean history, HAEUNDAE blends the drama of interwoven relationships with the high octane thrills of the traditional disaster genre.© 2009 CJ Entertainment Inc. A slightly different take on the disaster genre - the addition of comedy into the script was welcome. Like most disaster movies however, the outcome is predicable. I suspect there are a lot of sub texts that people more familiar with Korean culture will appreciate. There seemed to be a lot of unnecessary yelling.
