Griffin started our morning by making us breakfast in bed, complete with bagels he’d brought from NY!
We had a reservation to see the Colosseum, so we headed out to see that. It was such a quick walk from our AirBnB!
The Colosseum was really cool to visit. It’s such an impressive piece of architecture, but it’s scary to think of all the violence that occurred there.
Our next stop for the day was the Roman Forum, which we were totally blown away by! It was an absolutely massive collection of ruins, and it was all beautiful.
We spent quite a long time at the forum and didn’t leave until the evening. After picking somewhere we wanted to try for dinner, we decided to go check out another tourist attraction while we waited for the restaurant to open.
The Trevi fountain was absolutely the most crowded place in Rome. It was PACKED, but still very enjoyable.
I tossed a coin over my shoulder into the fountain because legend says that it guarantees a return to Rome some day. What’s even cooler is that they regularly collect the coins out of the fountain and donate them to local charitable causes!
It was after this that we had our one hiccup of the day. We arrived to the restaurant we wanted to try just for the menu to be completely different from what it was online and there was nothing I could eat. We walked next door instead and they had no tables. At this point I was RAVENOUS and rather hangry, so we decided to just check out the places closer to our Airbnb. We found one that sat us… but it turned out to be much more expensive than anticipated.
We started with the fried salt cod which was really good. I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture of it before we started eating!
I didn’t take a picture of it, but we had some INCREDIBLE bread. It was their pizza dough, and it was delectable. For my main dish I had a Roman-style chicken. It was decent, but I’m not a big fan of eating meat off the bone. Still, I was so hungry that it did the trick!
On our way to get gelato, we decided to pop into a church we happened to stumble across. It turned out to be stunning! The churches in Europe just never seem to disappoint.
This gelato was STELLAR. Really expensive, but entirely delicious. The chocolate chip cone with a chocolate hazelnut flavor and a salted caramel was beyond delicious. It was too much though- I had to have Griffin help me finish mine!
