After nearly 12 months at the Ulverstone STP for TasWater we have hit a major milestone, process commissioning of the new inground clarifier. A mammoth team effort involving so many different contractors. What started as a nice field of grass, we dug a hole, put down some pipe, filled the hole in, poured some piles, dug the hole back out again, put down some concrete, filled the hole in again, constructed a floor and walls, filled that hole in, mech and elec fit out and filled with water. Great forward planning combined with team driven problem solving and the best site people you could find. Topped it all off with some custom CPB Contractors and UGL cookies from my wife. Bring on the remaining mech and elec fit out. The $85 million Warrnambool Sewage Treatment Plant upgrade project - our largest ever - is on track and within budget as work begins on the next stage. Vegetation within the project site area was cleared and mulched in preparation for the earthworks where 85,000 cubic metres of material was excavated and used to create a large sand dune around the east and north of the site. The dune will help to minimise visual impacts once the area is revegetated at the end of the project. We’ve already started engaging with community groups to consider how it might look and prepare a concept plan. Inside the site, a new concrete inlet structure is being built which will see a significant improvement in the treatment process compared to the existing facility. A temporary retaining wall has also been installed to construct a new building that will house electrical equipment and aeration blowers servicing the new facilities.
