Sunny Hostin tried to quote Donald Trump on this morning’s episode of The View, but the former president’s words proved to be too inappropriate for daytime TV.

Hostin tried to invoke one of the one-term POTUS’s most infamous lines during a discussion about Trump’s campaign appearance at the Black Conservative Federation Gala on Saturday (Feb. 24). During his speech at the event, Trump claimed Black voters like him because he, too, had been “discriminated against” because of his multiple indictments.

While chatting about his gala remarks, the panel also prepared to discuss Trump’s comments at CPAC, in which he promised a “judgement day” for his detractors.

“He’s running on racism and revenge,” Whoopi Goldberg said as she introduced the Hot Topic, asking her co-hosts, “Is that a winning platform, or have most people started to get numb to what’s coming out of his mouth?”

Hostin was first to answer, assuring Goldberg she’s “not numb to it.”

Lambasting the “hellish” Trump, Hostin alleged that there were only “four Black people” at the Black Conservative Federation Gala, including Tim Scott, Ben Carson and Byron Donalds.

“I’m not sure who he was speaking to, but I know that as of 2022, one percent of Black voters … cast votes for Republican candidates,” she said. “His message is not resonating with Black voters in the way that media is trying to say and trying to portray.”

Hostin then reminded viewers of Trump’s housing discrimination case, in which he and his father were accused of blocking Black tenants from renting apartments in white neighborhoods.

“He did not want Black people to live where he lived or where his businesses were,” Hostin said. “He’s also dined with white supremacists, he’s said that there were many fine people on both sides after a deadly white supremacist riot.”

She then added, “He called countries like Haiti—” before turning to face The View‘s Executive Producer Brian Teta to ask, “Can I say the word, Brian?”

Ana Navarro could be heard telling Hostin, “No, I’ve tried before,” as the camera panned to Teta, who firmly shook his head in reply. While Hostin never finished her sentence, she was likely referring to Trump’s 2018 words about Haiti and African nations as “shithole countries.”

Hostin was then censored entirely, so it’s unclear what she said next, but when audio returned, Sara Haines told her, “You can’t say that, either.”

Goldberg then chimed in, “It’s been said,” but we never got to hear whatever was said at the Hot Topics table, because Hostin was censored once more.

Once her audio was restored, she delivered one final blow against Trump: “He’s a birther, he falsely accused the Central Park Five. He is, according to many people, a racist,” she said.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
