An “unforeseen” technology failure means Evanston/Skokie School District 65 is not expected to have internet access in any school or other district buildings today.
In a posting on the District’s website, Superintendent Devon Horton says “our team is working to restore the system,” but that may not be completed in time to allow viewing of tonight’s scheduled 7pm Board of Education meeting.
“We recognize the importance of the content being presented” at the meeting, Horton says, and the district is “working diligently to provide a livestream of the event.”
There will be a status updated posted on the district’s livestream webpage if the service remains out.
Horton says the meeting will be recorded and posted on the district’s website within 24 hours.
It is also possible to attend the meeting in person at the District 65 administration building, as long as COVID-related capacity restrictions are not exceeded. That limit allows no more than 50 people at the session, including members of the School Board and the administrative staff.
Horton says an equipment failure late last night caused the problem, which has caused a loss of internet access in all the district’s buildings today.
He said district’s tech staff hopes to have the system restored once some new equipment arrives later today.
In the meantime remote learning is continuing as scheduled. In-person learning is scheduled to resume tomorrow. Student registration and other in-person services are closed for the day.
