I’ll be discussing the Stats and Skills you should pay attention to, the Light Cones and Relics to strive for, and the Companions to pick in order to make Herta shine in combat. Honkai: Star Rail Herta Build Guide

Herta is a free-to-play 4-star character who’s an expert at dealing Ice Damage against multiple foes, especially when they’re afflicted with the Freeze effect. And receiving Attack buffs considerably improves her performance in combat. Thankfully, she has enough stat boosts up her sleeve, allowing her to dodge some of the enemy’s crowd-control abilities quite effectively.

To make Herta’s team successful, you’re going to want to chase after Welt who can incapacitate enemies by slowing them down with Imprisonment, or the resilient Physical Trailblazer to deal huge Physical Damage to all enemies. Additionally, you’ll need Tingyun and Natasha to boost an ally’s Attack and restore everyone’s HP, respectively.

Honkai: Star Rail Herta Build Guide – Stats And Eidolons

In this Honkai: Star Rail Herta Build, Herta follows the Erudition Path, making her adept at dealing huge damage against multiple targets similar to Qingue and Serval. As such, she’s a good asset to the team, especially when facing challenging opponents with annoying mobs. Since she’s going to fulfill the role of a damage dealer, you’ll want to invest mostly in Crit Rate, Crit Damage, and Attack.

These main stats should significantly enhance her performance in combat. Specifically, the burst Ice Damage she deals together with damage over time (DoT) as a consequence of freezing her targets, will be amplified. Since her Ice Damage scales with Attack, you’ll need to keep raising this stat every time.

For substats, you’ll continue to invest in Crit and Attack, followed closely by Break Effect and Speed. Having a high Break Effect is crucial in making sure that the Ice Damage Herta deals even after reducing the target’s Toughness to 0 remains effective, and in fact, greater than ever before. It’ll also improve her Ice DoT upon freezing them. Meanwhile, having decent Speed means increasing the frequency at which she attacks and raising the chances of attacking first. The more often Herta gets to deal damage, the better so she can end encounters much faster than anticipated. 

When it comes to Eidolons, you’d ideally want to unlock all 6 to bring out the best in her. The ideal ones to focus on in terms of priority are No One Can Betray Me at Level 6, Hit Where It Hurts at Level 4, and Keep the Ball Rolling at Level 2. No One Can Betray Me considerably raises Herta’s Attack every time she unleashes her Ultimate Ability, allowing her to deal massive Ice Damage on the next turn.

Comparatively, Eidolon’s 4 and 2 are triggered once her Talent is activated. Her Talent consists of a follow-up attack that she automatically launches when any of her allies attack a target whose HP is less than or equal to 50%. So for Hit Where It Hurts, Herta’s Ice Damage increases while for Keep the Ball Rolling, her Crit Rate is boosted by up to 5x. These are amazing buffs considering that she specializes in dealing AoE damage, which means she’ll be able to inflict massive carnage on several opponents per turn as a result.

In this section, we’ll talk about Herta’s Skills and Traces together with what you should prioritize in combat.

• Fine, I’ll Do It Myself (Talent) – This incredible passive allows Herta to perform an instant follow-up attack against a target whose HP is less than or equal to 50% provided that they’re hit by an ally. Fine, I’ll Do It Myself helps the team eliminate regular enemies much quicker while efficiently whittling down the HPs of elites. What makes this better is she’ll be dealing Ice Damage against all foes on the battlefield. 

• It Can Still Be Optimized (Technique) – This is a useful ‘enhance’ technique that allows Herta to significantly buff her Attack by +40% for the first 3 turns in encounters. It Can Still Be Optimized is huge, especially when you combine this with all of the CRIT Rate Boost Traces to improve her chances of landing deadly crits.

• What Are You Looking At? (Basic ATK) – This is a regular attack that lets Herta deal Ice Damage against a single target. Aside from gaining a skill point when When Are You Looking At? is triggered, she’ll be able to deal additional Ice Damage once Kick You When You’re Down has been unlocked. Again, the requirement is that their HP is less than or equal to 50%. The sooner you progress in Honkai: Star Rail’s story, the faster you’ll gain access to this Eidolon at Level 1. To further improve Herta’s damage, you’ll want to invest in DMG Boost: Ice.
• One-Time Offer (Skill) – This is an amazing Skill that allows Herta to deal even greater Ice Damage against foes with 50% or higher HP. So it’s best to trigger One-Time Offer during the earlier parts of combat. The best trace that synergizes well with this is the Efficiency Ability, which allows her to deal extra +25% Ice Damage every time.

• It’s Magic, I Added Some Magic (Ultimate) – This Ultimate lets Herta deal more than double the Ice Damage she would with One-Time Offer, against multiple enemies. For It’s Magic, I Added Some Magic, you’ll want to gain access to the Icing Ability at Character Ascension 6 in order to deal even more damage when facing frozen targets.

For the rest of Herta’s Traces, it’s still beneficial to unlock DEF Boost and the Puppet Ability to improve her survivability. DEF Boost is self-explanatory whereas Puppet notably raises her resistance to crowd control debuffs by a whopping 35% to be able to protect herself better. 

Honkai: Star Rail Herta Build Guide – Light Cones

When it comes to Light Cones, the ones you’ll want to chase after for Herta’s kit are Sagacity, The Birth of the Self, and Before Dawn. Sagacity is a 3-star Light Cone, which grants Attack buffs for 2 turns every time she triggers her It’s Magic, I Added Some Magic Ultimate. Doing so will greatly raise the chances of wiping out mobs of enemies in just a few turns. You can ascend this to as much as Level 30.

Meanwhile, The Birth of the Self is a 4-star Light Cone that significantly improves the damage Herta deals with her follow-up attacks. What’s more, is that this damage is doubled if her target’s HP is less than or equal to 50%, potentially killing them in the process! 

And finally, the best 5-star Light Cone you’ll want for Herta is Before Dawn. Before Dawn provides several useful effects. First, her Crit Damage will be greatly improved by default regardless of the ability she activates. The second is more skill-specific, meaning that her Ice Damage upon triggering One-Time Offer or It’s Magic, I Added Some Magic will be amplified. When either of these is used, Herta gains “Somnus Corpus”, which considerably enhances her follow-up attack damage by almost 50% at Level 1. Imagine how big this value will turn into at higher levels!

Honkai: Star Rail Herta Build Guide – Relics

In terms of Relics, it’s important to remember that for the Head and Hands, your character gets a flat HP and Attack bonus, respectively. This isn’t the case for the Body and Feet, which are comprised of random stats such as Crit and Speed. Ideally, you’d want to equip 4-star Relics since they provide 2-3 substats in addition to their main stat. But remember that regardless of the rating, enhancing them for every 3 levels will yield a random substat. For a Level 40 Herta, it’s enough to level up her Relics to a maximum of +6 for 4-star gear until you get their 5-star versions to reserve enough resources by then.

For Herta’s Relics, you’ll only need to wear one 4-piece set, specifically the Hunter of Glacial Forest. Not only does this boost Ice Damage but also Crit Damage right after unleashing her powerful It’s Magic, I Added Some Magic Ultimate Ability. Every damage and Attack boost is essential to enhance Herta’s effectiveness in combat.

You can farm the Hunter of Glacial Forest Set from the Cavern of Corrosion: Path of Gelid Wind. For the Hunter’s Ice Dragon Cloak and Soft Elkskin Boots, you’ll want to roll for Crit and Attack, followed by Break Effect % and then Speed.

Team Composition

In Honkai: Star Rail, you’ll have all four characters available while combat is ongoing so you won’t be swapping from one to the next. There also won’t be elemental pools left behind. Instead, you’ll focus on the enemy’s weaknesses to deplete their Toughness and HP accordingly. For this Herta Guide, I’ll be sharing the best characters to go with her and how effective their capabilities are for this build.

Since Herta will be the secondary or sub DPS, you’ll want someone who will carry the torch as the main DPS. Here, I recommend Welt, a Nihility Path character, or someone from the Destruction Path like the Physical Trailblazer or Hook. Welt is an incredible 5-star character who not only deals huge Imaginary Damage but also inflicts Imprisonment to render targets useless in combat. Aside from missing their turns, their Speed is also reduced, further pushing them down the Action Order. On the other hand, Destruction Path characters deal massive damage and remain resilient, which is imperative to survive longer in fights.

Next, you’ll need a decent Attack buffer, and no one does it better than Tingyun of the Harmony Path. She’s an exceptional support character who deals decent Lightning Damage on the side with her Basic Attack. But Tingyun does her best work when activating the Amidst the Rejoicing Clouds Ultimate to boost damage and restore a portion of an ally’s Energy to be able to trigger their Ultimate Ability faster.

Last but not least, you’ll need a core support character, one who focuses on helping the entire team survive soaking in damage. This role is fulfilled by none other than Natasha of the Abundance Path. Thanks to her Gift of Rebirth Ultimate, she can heal everyone effectively.

Final Tips

Herta is a decent 4-star character whom you’ll want to play if your goal is to deal Ice Damage against multiple enemies while potentially immobilizing them with Freeze. What’s great with this status effect is in addition to dealing Ice DoT, affected targets can also miss their turns. And the lesser the damage taken by you and your allies, the better. 

For Herta’s skill rotation, you’ll want to start off by using the It Can Still Be Optimized Technique to instantly boost her Attack in the beginning. This should be followed by the One-Time Offer Skill, which is effective against enemies whose HP is greater than or equal to 50%. You can then use it in conjunction with the It’s Magic, I Added Some Magic Ultimate to continually deal huge Ice Damage. And finally, once their HP is less than or equal to 50%, Herta will be unleashing her automatic follow-up attacks thanks to the Fine, I’ll Do It Myself Talent. 

If you don’t acquire The Birth of the Self, you can opt for Geniuses’ Repose. This 4-star Light Cone will naturally increase Herta’s Attack while indefinitely boosting her Crit Damage whenever she defeats a target. Geniuses’ Repose is a great choice that rewards her for killing enemies left and right.

Lastly, when it comes to Planetary Ornaments, be sure to go for the Inert Salsotto. This is a good accessory that will buff Herta’s Crit Rate, and when it reaches a certain threshold, her follow-up attack damage significantly increases as well.
