Being a Multi-Instrumentalist: Here’s What it Takes

Maybe you know how to play an instrument, and you know that you are good with it. But if you want to take things to the next level, you may want to try becoming a multi-instrumentalist. For many people, this may sound like a tall order.

However, this may come in handy, especially if you are going full-on and full-time in the music industry. While it may be challenging, you have to note that this will just be at the beginning of your musical journey. The drive is an important thing that you need to have if you really want to become a multi-instrumentalist.

Just because it’s hard does not mean it is not possible. Many musical artists, such as Lady Gaga and Freddie Mercury, in history, are multi-instrumentalists. They invested time and energy into becoming one. If you are looking for some useful pointers, here’s what you need to remember:

Give yourself time

Time is an important element here. No work of art happens in just one night. Meaning, you have to dedicate time to this pursuit. You may be loaded for the week, but if it really is important for you, you will always find time for it.

For one, you can dedicate yourself to practicing the basics of an instrument for two weeks to one month. Interspersed with it is some occasions when you can practice other instruments you want to learn.

Get the right lessons

It also helps if you have a teacher or a mentor that will tell you what you need to do. Investing in piano lessons in Las Vegas will surely have an effect on improving your own musical skills. Just be prepared with the recital.

Track your progress

You may lose interest in the instrument you are playing if you see that nothing is changing. But what you need to do is to track your progress. When you see improvements and breakthroughs with your playing, you will surely be inspired to do more.

Some budding musicians record a video of themselves every practice to see where they have committed errors or whatnot. You may want to do it to see if there is progress or success in your pursuit.

Get the right instruments

It goes to show that you have to have different instruments for different lessons. And because you are a beginner with some of the instruments, you may want to buy entry-level pieces. Normally, these instruments are more affordable than their premium counterparts.

Just move to a more premium piece if you know you have already mastered the instrument.

If you have wild ambitions in the music industry, there is a great chance that becoming a multi-instrumentalist is one of them. That is a beautiful ambition that you will need to work hard on. And while there are some challenges that will come your way, know that your ambition is not impossible.

It can happen given that you have put in the right amount of effort and you are dedicated to perfecting your craft. Invest time and energy in it.
