I think both can be translated as "to push". The difference is that "stoßen" is one strong shove/thrust/push, while "schieben" refers to a continuous shoving most of the time.
Ich hatte einen Platten, und habe mein Fahrrad nach Hause geschoben
I had a flat tire, and walked my bike home (lit.: pushed my bike home)
Er schob ihm den Vertrag über den Tisch (he shoved/pushed/slid the contract over the table to(wards) him)
Ich habe mir den Fuß am Tischbein gestoßen (I hit my foot on the table leg)
Er hat versucht, sie vor den Zug zu stoßen (he tried to shove her in front of the train)
