Shout out to Camilo Payan and Craig Zeise who shipped out standard-performance 1.4.0 and Standard Ruby 1.36.0! 🥳 There are no new rules, but plenty of bug fixes, so make sure to upgrade. ICYMI: Our co-founder, Justin Searls, created Standard Ruby five years ago to be a universal set of static analysis ("linting") and code style rules for your Ruby code.

CarNext.com is a disruptive digital used car platform that grew very quickly. Despite an impressive growth story, it wasn't selling as many cars as it projected. Customer conversion was low and acquisition cost was high. They turned to us to enable scale, speed and sustainable growth. We stepped in as interim CPO to quickly transform their product strategy, operating model and organization. Within 18 months, CarNext saw a 3x increase in sales and cut its speed to market to one-third the time, all leading up to a successful acquisition. 💥 Do you need help scaling for growth or improving speed to market? Our product management consultants have a proven track record with clients from startups to multiple Fortunate 100 enterprises. Legacy codebases are often like tangled mazes, with convoluted logic, outdated practices, and patches upon patches. 😵💫 A rewrite sounds like a clean slate and a chance to architect the new system from the ground up. There are times where a large-scale rewrite makes the most sense – like when we partnered with Cars.com to retool its systems and turbocharge development with a more modern software development culture. ... but rewrites have a bad reputation for good reason. They are expensive and time-consuming and often cause more headaches and risks than they're worth. Sometimes, incremental improvements or targeted refactoring efforts can achieve similar outcomes – but with far less disruption and risk. Struggling with your legacy code? We can help you weigh your options and figure out the best way to move forward. Contact us for a no-pressure personalized business consultation. https://lnkd.in/gwCWhSMK

Too many consultancies our founders worked at were set up for failure. They heavily incentivized a commission-based sales force to do whatever they could to close a deal. That sales force would often agree to fixed bid contracts as it was the easiest path to a signature. All of this urgency to close a deal eventually left delivery teams with a set of constraints and goals that were unachievable, so they had to choose between making the project successful in terms of profit OR successful in terms of quality — but never both. 😫 Our founders, Todd Kaufman and Justin Searls, wanted to do things differently. They wanted contracts that are equitable and support building software for quality, which reduces the cost of maintenance in the long run. Read more about our open-ended contracts and weekly pricing:

How many of our software engineers on teams feel like they are merely machines on an assembly line churning out code? 🥴 The model is wrong. It stifles the innovation and creativity of engineers when we don't allow them to co-discover the problems worth solving for our users, customers, and businesses. More in this hot take from senior product management consultant Michael Toland:
The myth of industrializing software engineering
