2. Christ lag in Todes Banden

Christ lay in death’s bonds, Given for our sins;

He is risen again

And has brought us life.

Of this we should be joyful, Praise God and be thankful to him

And sing hallelujah. Hallelujah.

3. Den Tod niemand zwingen kunnt

Bei allen Menschenkindern;

Alleluja!

Nobody could overcome death

Among all the children of humankind;

Our sin made all that so;

No innocence was to be found.

As a result, death came immediately

And seized power over us, Held us captive in his kingdom. Hallelujah.

Alleluja!

Jesus Christ, God’s son, Has come in our place

And did away with our sins, Thereby taking from death

All its privilege and its power.

There remains nothing but death’s shape; It has lost its sting. Hallelujah.

5. Es war ein wunderlicher Krieg, Da Tod und Leben rungen;

It was a wondrous battle,

Where death and life struggled;

Life won the victory, It has swallowed up death.

Scripture has proclaimed this: How one death devoured the other, And a mockery was made of death.

Alleluja!

Here is the proper Easter lamb

That God has offered

Which is, up on the cross’s trunk, Roasted in ardent love, Whose blood marks our door, with which faith rebukes death; The Destroyer Angel can no longer harm us.

Hallelujah!

Alleluja!

Thus we celebrate the high feast With joy of heart and gladness that the Lord lets shine upon us; He himself is the sun, Who through his luster of grace Illumines our hearts entirely; The night of sin has vanished. Hallelujah.

Alleluja!

We eat and live well

On the right Easter flatbread; The old sourdough shall not Be with the word of grace. Christ will be the nourishment

And alone feed the soul; Faith will live by no other. Hallelujah.

Non Nobis, Domine

Rosphanye Powell

Non nobis, Domine, tuo da gloriam.

Sed nomini tuo da gloriam.

Non nobis, Domine, tuo da gloriam.

Not unto us, O Lord, give thy glory.

But to your name be the glory.

Not unto us, O Lord, give they glory.

Dies Irae

Ryan Main

Dies Irae! Dies Illa!

Solvet Saeclum in favilla:

Teste David cum Sibylla!

Quantus tremor est futurus, Quando judex est venturus, Cuncta stricte discussurus!

Day of wrath! O Day of mourning!

See fulfilled the prophets’ warning, Heaven and Earth in ashes burning. Oh, what fear man’s bosom rendeth, When from heaven the Judge descendeth, On whose sentence all dependeth.

Lobe den Herren J.S. Bach (1685–11750) and H. Distler (1908–42)

Praise to the Lord! the Almighty, the King of creation!

O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation!

All ye who hear, Now to His temple draw near, Join me in glad adoration!

Praise to the Lord! who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth, Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth: Hast thou not seen

How thy desires have been Granted in what He ordaineth? – Joachim Neander (1650–1680)

Hymn to the Eternal Flame

Stephen Paulus (from To Be Certain of The Dawn) (1949–2014)

Every face is in you, every voice, Every sorrow in you.

Every pity, every love,

Every memory, woven into fire.

Every breath is in you, every cry, Every longing in you.

Every singing, every hope,

Every healing, woven into fire.

Every heart is in you,

Every tongue, every trembling in you,

Every blessing, every soul,

Every shining, woven into fire.

Angelus ad pastores ait

Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562–1621)

Angelus ad pastores ait:

annuntio vobis gaudium magnum, quia natus est vobis hodie Salvator mundi. Alleluia.

The angel said to the shepherds: “I bring you tidings of great joy, for the Savior of the world has been born to you today.” Alleluia.

III. The Sun Never Says

Even After

All this time

The sun never says to the earth,

“You owe Me.”

Look

What happens

With a love like that, It lights the Whole Sky.

–Daniel Ladinsky, from “The Gift”

IV. Gloria in excelsis

Gloria in excelsis Deo, Et in terra pax.

Glory to God in the highest, And on earth, peace.

– from Luke 2:14

They Are Mother

What shall I call this force I know

Who do I come to when I wonder

The space that holds me when I’m low

More than a parent, friend, or lover

They are Mover

They are Maker

They are Mother, mm

They are Mother, mm

Jennifer Lucy Cook

They are the breath I see in cold

The ready muscle in the sprinter

They are the glitter and the gold

The steady heat lamp in the winter

They are Mover

They are Maker

They are Mother, mm

They are Mother, mm

They nod and know

They need nothing

They’re god and grow

They bleed blessings

They nod and know

They need nothing

They’re god and grow

They bleed blessings

They are solitude

They are multitude

They are gratitude
