One of Mount Shasta City's most beloved restaurants has returned to a new location.

This time, you'll find Piemont Marketplace in the City of Shasta Lake.

Piemont Marketplace, now located off Shasta Dam Boulevard is an Italian deli that dates back all the way to 1940.

Now, it's been reborn in a new location. The owner tells KRCR's Sam Chimenti that the road to reopening didn't happen overnight.

"When I had to close the restaurant, it broke my heart," said owner Troy Gerding. " It was a tradition for a lot of families that would travel up there. I thought, 'I just got to get out of here because I can't even show my face.'"

Gerding, the fourth generation to operate the family-owned market, moved to Placer County and opened a food truck called Onisto's, named in remembrance of his great grandmother.

While the food truck saw success, it still just wasn't the same.

"It wasn't consistent enough and I wanted to bring more of the same recipes that my great grandmother and grandfather had back to the table," said Gerding. "It was time to move closer back to home and have it available to the people that appreciate it the most."

With that, Piemont reopened on Friday in the City of Shasta Lake. It was a huge hit as people came in droves to try everything from ravioli, their most famous dish to the mouth-watering meatball sub and, of course, the cannolis.

Gerding says he's happy to be back doing what he loves which is bringing people together to have some delicious food. He does, however, want to remind people of one thing: don't overcook the ravioli! He even includes some instructions.
