Who are Annabel & Rose Langbein?

For the past 30 years, Annabel Langbein has been a household name in New Zealand. Celebrated Kiwi cook and culinary queen, Annabel has published over 30 cookbooks, and co-produced three seasons of her award-winning television series. It’s always been Annabel’s mission to inspire others to cook simple, healthy meals. Her lighthearted down-to-earth approach, no-fail recipes, and kitchen tips have earned her a passionate international following. Annabel is based in Wānaka, a small town nestled in the southern alps of New Zealand, where she grows most of her food on a rural lakeside property.

Annabel’s daughter, Rose has always been passionate about food and nature. Like many of her generation, Rose cares deeply about the environment and sustainability and spends as much of her time outdoors as possible — camping, hiking, and exploring the natural world. Rose spent a few years working in restaurants in Melbourne before moving to NYC to work as an art director for a restaurant group. Rose has co-authored two books with Annabel, and now works as a brand strategist and writer in Lisbon, Portugal.

Together, we share a love of cooking delicious simple recipes that are nourishing and full of flavour. We are both driven by curiosity, being resourceful, and connecting with the natural world. We share an ethos around simple pleasures — little things you can do everyday to make life more joyful and pleasurable and to create a feeling of home wherever you are. Whether that is sitting down for dinner with some candles, listening to groovy music while you cook, or taking the time to enjoy your lunch in the sunshine.

What do I get as a free subscriber?

Free subscribers will receive an occasional (usually monthly) newsletter from us. In this we will share recipes we’ve been loving, garden tours and tips from Annabel, special occasion menus, books we are reading and enjoying, fun playlists, and other things that inspire us.

What do I get as a paid subscriber?

Paid subscribers will receive our free monthly newsletter plus our weekly newsletter, What to Cook Tonight — where we share a weekly meal plan with three delicious seasonal recipes for home cooks, plus shopping lists. We’ve designed the recipes to complement one another — reducing waste, and saving you time and money. For example, one night you might make a curry and cook some extra rice that you’ll use later in the week for fried rice. Or if you use basil for one recipe and have some left, we’ll ensure you use the rest later in the week too. You get the gist. This also means that if you have a smaller household, you’re less likely to come into the “what do I do with half an onion” problem. The recipes are very much the way we both eat — lots of vegetables, a little protein now and then, and lots of fresh, bright flavours. We also include ideas for additions or substitutions to suit your dietary needs and preferences. It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut, eating the same dinners week in and week out. Our hope for What to Cook Tonight is to change that! Yummy, fresh, satisfying, nourishing and always delicious dinners that make you excited to cook and eat.

How much does it cost?

The subscription price is $8 a month, and you can also get an annual subscription for $80. The idea is that we’ve done all the thinking for you, so you don’t have to. Giving you more time to enjoy your life — whether that’s sneaking in a yoga class, reading your book, getting out into nature, or spending more time with your family.

Why paid?

We’ve spent a lot of time concepting, testing, and developing these recipes. Putting them into a weekly menu, writing shopping lists, cross-referencing local produce prices, and sharing ideas and methods for substitutions and variations all takes a lot of valuable time. We also want to be able to commit to giving you the best, most considered, thoughtful newsletters possible!

I’ve subscribed — what next?
