The war was just the beginning.

1945. A U.S. military cargo plane loses control and violently crashes behind enemy lines in the middle of the German black forest. Major Johnson sends a squad of his bravest soldiers on a rescue mission to retrieve the top-secret material the plane was carrying, led by Sergeants Brewer and Walsh. They soon discover hanged Nazi soldiers and other dead bodies bearing ancient, magical symbols. Suddenly their compasses fail, their perceptions twist and straying from the group leads to profound horrors as they are attacked by a powerful, supernatural force.

2. Weltkrieg, abgestürztes Flugzeug, Men on a mission, Nazis, Mythologie, Hexen und ein bißchen Predatorstimmung. Noch etwas ? Mickey Rourke verkommt als Zaungast und Robert Knepper (Lieblingsbösewicht aus Prison Break) darf wiedermal großartig aufspielen.
Der war jetzt mal wirklich nicht so schlecht wie er vielerorts abschneidet.
Aufgrund seines düsteren Looks sieht das Geschehene sehr wertig aus und rutscht auch nie zu sehr in Trashgefilde ab. Sicher, ein etwas höheres Budget, ein illustrer Cast sowie einer größeren Fokusierung auf die Charakterisierung hätten dem Treiben gut getan. Zu sehr mitfiebern tut man leider mit (fast) keinem.
Dennoch, der Film ist nicht so furchtbar wie das Plakat vermuten lässt und kann bei heruntergeschraubter Erwartung trotz hanebüchener Story sehr gut unterhalten.
Kriegstreiben vermischt mit Fantasyhorror und einem sprichwörtlichem dunklen Finale.
Kein großer Wurf, aber heutzutage ist man bei dem ganzen Direct-to-Stream-Dünnpfiff mit wenig auch schon mehr als zufrieden.

Echoing films like Outpost, Overlord, and Dog Soldiers, Mauro Borrelli's Warhunt is a decent start to 2022's indie action. Nazis, dark menacing woods, occult mind games, unearthly body horror, and insidious witches abound in this GIs-vs-coven action-horror. Rourke may be the most prominent face on the poster but he's actually very underutilized, with the always welcome Robert Knepper and a hard-edged Jackson Rathbone acting as solid protagonists.
Warhunt’s budgetary limits always feel present, particularly during several very dimly lit sequences and when Rourke is sitting in a tent for most of the runtime. But the sinister thrills and bloody fates work within those bounds; the director even manages to put grisly black-magic twists on a few Predator homages. The final act gets mired in exposition and clunky explanation, but overall Warhunt is a concise, familiar, and watchable genre flick.

Ein US-Militärflugzeug stürzt im Schwarzwald, hinter feindlichen deutschen Linien, ab. Sergeant Brewer und seine Einheit werden von Major Johnson beauftragt, aus dem Wrack geheimes Material zu bergen. Schnell merken sie das im Wald etwas nicht stimmt.
Kriegshorror Beitrag aus dem Jahr 2022, mit Robert Knepper und Mickey Rourke. Hier verliert man keine unnötige Zeit, und deshalb wird der Zuschauer sofort in das Geschehen "reingeschmissen" Dieses ist in ihrem kleinen Rahmen gut gemacht, nichts wurde größer gemacht als es sein muste. Der Handlungsort Wald funktioniert in der Story gut, und erfüllt seinen Zweck. Das Geschehen geht in einem guten Tempo voran, was insgesamt dem Film gut tut. Horror-,Kriegsanteil ist in ordnung. Sonst ist hier alles solide umgesetzt, und es sieht wertig aus. Natürlich ist das gesehene nichts besonderes, aber das Gesamtpaket geht in Ordnung. Da gibt es andere Vertreter dieser Gattung die schlimmer sind.

Warhunt is a surprisingly entertaining action / horror hybrid.
Mickey Rourke wears some odd looking clothes, but no Hawaiian shirts in Warhunt. Sorry to also inform you he doesn’t have any time to play with any puppy dogs.
Warhunt is a Men on a Mission WWII action flick. Some scenes look too dark, but the overall execution is pretty damn solid. I think both the action and the horror community can find a lot to like with Warhunt.

Von einer Rettungsaktion gegen Ende des zweiten Weltkrieges, zum Hexengemetzel ausartend in einem Blutbad. Warhunt, der einen scheinbar klassischen Men on a Mission Film auf die Beine stellt und Mythologien zusammen mit Nazis vereint, ist in dem ersten Akt ein spannender und atmosphärischer straight foreward Film, der seine Stärken und Schwächen weiß und sich auf ersteres mehr beruht. Ein guter Umgang mit der Kamera, schöne Effekte, ein brillierender Cast und ein erstaunlich hochwertiger Szenenaufbau lassen vergessen, dass hinter Warhunt ein B-Movie steckt, doch ein Gefühl der Angst, komischen Atmosphäre im Hintergrund mitschwingt und mit jeder vergehenden Minute aufsteigend an Raum gewinnt und den Wald mit dem mehr und mehr aufziehenden Nebel einnimmt.

Überraschend solider Mix aus Kriegs und Horror Film, der rund um das Thema Hexen mal einen neuen Gegner bietet.
Robert Knepper soll auf Befehl seines Majors Mickey Rourke mit einem kleinen Trupp hinter die feindlichen Linien ausrücken um wichtige Dokumente zu bergen. Die befinden sich in einem abgestürzten Flugzeug mitten im Schwarzwald. Während Sie immer tiefer in den Wald eindringen und langsam die Orientierung verlieren, scheint es kein Ausweg mehr zu geben als auch die Kompasse nicht mehr funktionieren. Nachdem der Trupp auf jede Menge verunstaltete Leichen und eine mysteriöse Frau trifft, wird klar, dass sie es mit einer übernatürlichen Macht zu tun haben.
Dachte eigentlich hier kommt jetzt wieder die übliche Gurkennummer auf mich zu, aber das trifft nicht…

Soldiers are being picked off by a coven of evil witches in the woods. Nothing new here but there's some decent makeup effects and visuals. Competently acted but most of the cast was unlikable so I wasn't rooting for any of them to survive. At times it was to dark to see what was happening on screen. Overall Warhunt is a decent early year time waster.

Ich liebe sie ja, die Copy-cat-filme, die nichts weiter machen als straight ihre Unterhaltung rausballern zu wollen und gut.
Wenn dann noch SABAN als Studio hintersteckt, bin ich doch heller Freude, erwartete ich doch ein billigst runtergekurbelten Ranzschinken.
Aber der Mix aus CHOSTS OF WAR, HÄNSEL&GRETEL und zum Schluss etwas FROM DUSK TILL DAWN sieht gut aus, weiß wie er zu beleuchten hat und der Kameramann tut sein Job mit Freude.
Schade, dass die Hexenviecher zu wenig in den Vordergrund gedrÜckt werden und Micky Rourke wirkt, als wäre er besoffen aus nem Cosplayladen getaumelt.
Symphatische Dark Fantasy, die man im Dunkeln und im Original gucken sollte.

Warhunt is what happens when The Blair Witch Project, Wolfenstein (or Overlord), and Predator all have a baby. An ugly baby that grows into a surly and disappointing teen. It's unfortunate since this could have been a very cool little B movie that impresses... like Dog Soldiers (which this movie also shares some DNA with).
Warhunt is about a squad of American GIs who are tasked with finding a downed cargo plane somewhere in Europe during WW2. There can't really be a good movie behind this fundamentally ugly movie poster. I was sure. I was wrong. WarHunt is a successful DTV horror actioner, which of course is not particularly big, original or clever, but offers entertaining, sometimes thrilling entertainment. Director Mauro Borrelli has also somehow managed to make the film look quite appealing despite enormous corona/lockdown loads (great making of) and modest budget along with cinematographer Eric Gustavo Petersen.
