Zusammenfassung

Die Methoden der Gewebe- und Zellzüchtung haben innerhalb der letzten ein bis zwei Dekaden weitverbreitete Anwendung in den verschiedensten Zweigen der Biologie erfahren. Darüber sollte jedoch nicht vergessen werden, daß dieses Gebiet trotz technischer Perfektion auch heute noch zahlreiche faszinierende Probleme birgt und deshalb nicht aufgehört hat, ein ergiebiges Feld selbständiger Forschung zu sein. So wie die praktischen Aspekte dieses Gebietes in viele Richtungen der Biologie ausstrahlen, erscheinen auch die Probleme und Forschungsergebnisse stets in vielfältiger Beleuchtung. Bezeichnenderweise verbindet sich die amerikanische Tissue Culture Association bei ihren jährlichen Zusammenkünften der Reihe nach mit den Kongressen verschiedener biologischer Fachrichtungen, wie z. B. mit den Anatomen, Biochemikern, Mikrobiologen, Pathologen, Krebsforschern usw. Das im folgenden zur Diskussion gestellte Problem wird, besonders im Hinblick auf praktische Gesichtspunkte, hauptsächlich den Mikrobiologen angehen.
